D-Day, on June 6, 1944, was the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Normandy during World War II. Codenamed Operation Overlord, it involved 156,000 troops from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and other nations landing on Normandy’s beaches to begin liberating France from German control.
