Reading and research that has shaped this work

A curated, regularly updated reading list of the research, books, and longform writing we keep coming back to. Annotated so you can decide what is worth your time.

What this is

A reading list, not an algorithm

Most reading lists in this field are either out of date, repeated from the same six titles, or so long that nobody reads any of them.

The Belonging Works reading list is curated by practitioners and updated as new work earns its place. Every entry has a short, honest note: what it argues, what it is good for, and what it is not. We name where we disagree, and we link to source data wherever it is available.

You do not have to read everything. You should be able to walk in to a board meeting, an executive coffee, or a community call with one or two real references in your back pocket. This list is built for that.
